Stamp of Approval
Bob and Donna Rodkey enjoy the process of turning their new house into their home.
Even before Bob Rodkey and his wife Donna moved into their new production house in Wilsonville, Oregon, they knew they were going to make changes. Married for 40-years, the Rodkey's aren't the type to drift into retirement. Not only does Bob run his own business out of the home, but the couple enjoys entertaining, whether that means their grandchildren or close friends.
"This will probably be our last stop," Rodkey says. "After downsizing from a bigger home, we wanted things to be exactly a certain way, something we could put our stamp on. We figured, if not now, then when?"
For starters, one of the home's three bedrooms would need to become Bob's office. The room's closet would become a bookcase. Plus, they also wanted a custom entertainment center in the family room, a work center for Donna, and a wet bar in the bonus room.
The process wasn't new to Rodkey. Having managed a number of remodels and home projects throughout the years, he was happy to have someone take care of everything.
"This was the largest project we've done," he says. "Managing them myself, I found the work gets very tedious. Just having contractors give you bids, let alone getting people to show up can be difficult. I was thankful that Lance took the whole thing over as a general contractor. He just brought things to me.
"If I'd done it myself, I'd probably still be trying to bring it together and pulling my hair out at the same time."
Once LB Fisher got started, the project rolled out with what Rodkey refers to as "military precision," moving like clockwork in step with the timeline.
"Lance put the whole thing together on a spreadsheet. Once he clicked the ‘start button', things happened in a steady progression without any interruption." The progression included the management of licensed and bonded finish carpenters, cabinetmakers, painters, demolition workers, drywallers, carpet installers, electricians, plumbers and tile workers.
"I was impressed by the quality of Lance's people. Everyone was extremely careful and respectful of our home. The way they worked, and the quality of their work, made it easy for the project to get done on time. Plus I always knew what was going on. Trust was never an issue."
Finally at home in their new home, Bob and Donna now enjoy the compliments their visitors give.
"People say it's gorgeous. Warm. Cozy. That it doesn't look like a tract home. We're very proud of it and very happy with how it was handled."
